And then it dawned on me. . . .

The stated reason for requiring drug tests for welfare recipients (according to the right) is that if the government is going to give you a financial benefit, then you should not be skirting the law at the same time.

I want my congressman (fat chance with crazy Ted Poe as my critter) to propose a similar piece of legislation in Congress: Before any company or corporation gets any federal tax benefit or shelter, it must repatriate all of its overseas capital and pay the taxes owed on that capital.

My work here is done - I'm going on break.

The purpose of the drug testing requirement is to reduce the welfare rolls and save money so taxes on the rich can be reduced.

Florida failed miserably if accounted in dollars. Spent way more on testing than withholding from cannabis users.

How can that be? I was led to believe that welfare recipients were all black-slash-hispanic-junkie-layabouts.

For the past year, the Georgia Department of Labor has encouraged Georgia businesses to alert the agency if a job applicant fails a drug test, so that the department does not spend unemployment insurance on those who aren't really ready to work.

How many drug test failures have businesses reported? Just one, according to department spokesman Sam Hall.

"As a result of that one employer calling, we investigated and the person that had been reported was disallowed from continuing to receive benefits," Hall said.

For the past few years, concern that unemployed people are using drugs has been widespread among state business groups and Republican officeholders. Lawmakers in more than 30 states have pursued drug testing for people seeking unemployment or welfare benefits.

Yet data reflecting the problem are scant.

Seems there are a few other good reasons $$$ for drug testing welfare recipients.

One of the more popular services at Solantic, the urgent care chain co-founded by Florida Gov. Rick Scott, is drug testing, according to Solantic CEO Karen Bowling.
Given Solantic's role in that marketplace, critics are again asking whether Scott's policy initiatives - this time, requiring drug testing of state employees and welfare recipients - are designed to benefit Scott's bottom line.
The Palm Beach Post reported in an exclusive story two weeks ago that while Scott divested his interest in Solantic in January, the controlling shares went to a trust in his wife's name.

That's why Lockheed and McDonald Douglas are union.

And Republicans do all they can to give those firms the "freedom" to hire former burger flippers to assemble fighter jets.

Your name conspiracy theory reminds me of that episode of Family Guy where Lois gets a job at Fox News and Discovers that Rush Mibaugh and Michael Moore are really the same person - characters that were being played by Fred Savage.

to get elected to higher office. He made thieves wear sandwich boards detailing their crimes out in public. If they shoplifted, he made them stand outside the store they stole from. Rapist the option of chemical castration. They carved him a district splitting our Democratic district in half. He has been far right with Senator Cornholeio (Cornyn) ever since!
