4 Shot During Argument on Bourbon Street
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW ORLEANS Four people were wounded in gunfire on the citys famed Bourbon Street as a costumed crowd partied amid the countdown to Mardi Gras, sending people running, the police and bystanders said.
Four shots were fired Saturday night, followed by screams, a video taken by a bystander and released by the police showed. The authorities said an argument involving some of those in the crowd led up to the shooting. No arrests were immediately reported and the police said they were seeking three men.
Those wounded included a man who was shot in the abdomen, thigh and pelvis along with another man and two women, a spokesman for the New Orleans Police, Frank B. Robertson, said. His statement said the others were also hit by gunshots: the man in the buttocks, one woman on the chin and right foot and the other on a toe.
The police had said late Saturday that the most severely wounded man was in critical condition and undergoing surgery while the others were stable. They did not give their names or ages.
The article doesn't say what kind of weapon was used. Not an assault weapon with a high capacity clip I would assume as the victims survived the shooting.

(67,111 posts)although I've not seen them / been there in years. I like New Orleans, always had a good time there, it's a beautiful city.
Kansas City is going through some serious problems ... it seems they want to be the next Chicago. I do not live directly in Kansas City, but in a very safe area. Almost every night on the news are new murders, gun fights and whatever, It gets quite depressing. Parts of Kansas City are beautiful and very safe, but all of the violence in certain areas casts a very negative cloud over the city IMO.

From the video you see what appears to be one man arguing some another men in a crush of people. You then see a couple of them leave. Later they come back, seek out the person they argued with and shoot them with some type of handgun. I'm unclear on if they meant to shoot the others or if it was due to the heavy crowd and that they were hit.

(16,974 posts)They cause most deaths, proving again the the assault weapon frenzy is misplaced. They are actually used in very few shootings compared to hand guns. Hope they find the shooters. Back ground checks may be a good thing but I fear they will not help with this.

(12,448 posts)A hundred thousand people, fueled by thousands of gallons of booze and a couple tons of mind-altering substances, it is and always has been inevitable. We're just being more informed of it because this is the popular topic of the moment.
In a nation of over thee hundred million people, everything you can imagine and more, both good and bad, happens every single day.

(75,480 posts)today, you'd think the gun owners would try to keep their cohorts under control and under the radar. I'll bet the NYTimes never reported on it before either but now they are. If you don't want them to come and take your guns, you'd better not give them a reason to.

(12,448 posts)but OTOH, I have no illusions that anything effective will come out of the current side-show either. The problem isn't the guns, it's us. Americans are, generally speaking and with very many exceptions, stupid, violent, and terrifyingly ignorant.
We should, but never will (at least in my lifetime), realize that the only solution is complete disarmament, including everyday law enforcement. As log as guns are commonly available, we will avail ourselves of them and use them.
