Just about everything I see in MSM advertising portrays younger white males as ignorant stupid "A's", and uncivilized and unschooled. Amazingly it is all too true for a good many of them. It seems that all they care about is sports, screwing or beating women, and beer.
Even worse I see to many white males of my generation as very little different. And it is sad really. That is because such generic types seem to add little to the progress of society as a whole.
The anti intellectual and anti intelligence bent of this group is what allows the churches and reactionaries to attack basic science and culture that leads us all to a better place. The coordinated attack on "liberal education" is unprecedented. The ultra conservative pushes for a very narrow limited education aimed only at what gets one a job and not an education that allows for an informed and knowledgeable citizen. Narrowmindedness, hatred, bigotry and superstition fostered by radical religion is more valued than a broad understanding of the world and science.
When I went to school in the middle part of the last century being intelligent and informed had value and was rewarded. Now it is shunned and bullied. Such attitudes that foster the "dead end" conservatism of today is why we see so many things going backward and the US no longer being the leader in science and technology.
Anyone saying or believing that the earth is only 6,000 years old would have been laughed off the public stage. Anyone saying that evolution was just only a theory when it has been irrefutably proven by the fossil record and in the present would have never had any kind of public legitimacy.
Yet today so much nonsense, absurdity and outright insanity pervades the public stage. There seems to be a "sea of ignorance, superstition and fear" that grows. As a country we are much less for it.

(10,602 posts)That argument carries no weight with me because stereotypes to in fact exist.

The title suggested there might be something useful in the post. Alas.
But on the other hand, it's a refreshing change of pace to read of a bogeyman other than old white men. It's important to change it up in the interest of variety occasionally.

(45,851 posts)One hell of a lot of what is wrong with our society today can be traced to the fact that we no longer have the Soviet Union as an implacable enemy of capitalism.
There is no need any more of large numbers of proles who are capable of thinking for themselves, indeed such people are positive threats to the status quo and much of our culture seems deliberately designed to discourage independent thinking.

that's all I'm going to say.
the worst thing about it to me is how false it is.

(110,159 posts)house. articulate, express, communicate. they do not get the choice and i started it day one talking to the boys, oh so little and it never stopped. hubby isnt into the communication thing. he is growing in the area. it wasnt allowed in his house. he loves it that our boys do it. but, in his house academics was THE priority.
we watched our boys going in thru school where both genders being dumb was glorified and being smart was a handicap. fortunately, by the time they get into upper high school, being smart is a plus.
but, media and society feed the dumb male thing. we have always discussed this conditioning and rejected it.
i started with cartoon when they were kids, like sponge bob and ed ed & eddy. they werent watching shows that were about honoring stupid and anger.
that all being said, i have two teenage boys that does not fit your description of the norm. so it certainly does not have to be.
another way we approached it. teenage years were not a time to fuck up and be out of control. teenage years is a time where you figure out how to be an adult so you can step into it later years and have the tools to do it.
we also rejected the conditioning that parents are the enemy. and that it was a kids job to rebel.
take this into consideration, and good choices gain freedoms and trust. much more fun and allowing their independence.

(7,804 posts)Never having had to question anything about their identity, being accepted by default by the system in which they find themselves, they simply accept their conditioning.
