There certainly are IBEW brothers in NOLA. Including about 300 that work for Entergy New Orleans (the power company that is taking the blame).

Although the picture posted earlier was of Jindahl labeled as a dim light bulb. IIRC, his dim intellect burned out the circuitry.

The AFL-CIO Now blog tells us more:

(The players) share a bond with the men in the striped shirts—members of the NFL Referees Association. During the past two years, both have been locked out by NFL owners.

The announcers, camera operators, technicians and other hardworking folks who are bringing the game to the big flat-screen TV in your home or favorite watering hole are members of SAG-AFTRA, Broadcast Employees and Technicians-CWA (NABET-CWA), Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Laborers (LIUNA) ...

The half-time spectacular ... is made possible by the skills of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the talents of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) and other performing artists...

The AFL-CIO adds that skilled workers from the the Southeast Louisiana and Louisiana State Building and Construction Trades councils rebuilt the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after Hurricane Katrina.

utterly silly.... don't really blame anyone. Have had odd electricals on around for ages. union and non union. don't think this is the right time to find out if your grounded yet or not.. and I have some working knowledge on how to install things. Preferably not on a miswired house. (ones where you've shut off the power to the room and 1/2 of the outlet. oh but the other 1/2 is still zap oh hello.

Right in the national spotlight.

An example that was witnessed by 1/3 of the country, yet ignored by everyone.

It was a brand new protective relay that cut the power. Right now Entergy is saying the device failed andthe manufacturer is saying it wasn't configured properly when it was installed.

That corroded lines were part of the problem as well.

Everyone involved is claiming it was someone else. They'll wait until the story disappears completely before we find the real cause of the problem and then it will be just a blurb on the back page of the B section of the newspaper.

unlike the pathetic carpenters union the electrical union is pretty solid. i work in construction for over a decade and out of the 100s of jobs ive been on including remodeling work inside the superdome. 95% of the jobs were done by frischhertz electric a union company. not to say the work for the superbowl couldnt have been outsource tho

Just because a state is right-to-work doesn't mean there aren't unions. Check it before you post it.

That said, the same environment which eschews worker rights also tends to create an atmosphere (lack of Education, regulations, etc.) where such mistakes are more likely to happen.
