Something tells me not. But maybe I am wrong.

(44,173 posts)But if the killer vowed publicly to kill again (like the Son of Sam in 1977) then I suspect they would.

(17,742 posts)So long as at least one of those two were related to someone high up in LAPD. Silly.
Asymmetrical indeed.

(69,059 posts)Attractive blond female victims make for great television, so the police would probably look for who ever killed them, in that case.

(665 posts)The actual murders did not even occur in the Los Angeles jurisdiction. Seems kind of shitty of them to pretty much upend the Irvine PD's authority in this matter to "steal the show".

they only started doing what they did when they found the manifesto . not as soon as the daughter of a cop was killed.

(51,666 posts)You have to remember, they didn't hesitate to shoot up the vehicle that had those two women in it. They are out for vengeance. If they catch him, they WILL kill him, even if he's not armed.

(5,756 posts)So far two different police departments in CA have unloaded a hail of bullets into trucks. The LAPD unloaded at least 47 bullets into a truck that was not the same make/model/color as Dorner's truck and had two Latinas in it who were decidedly not large, beefy, muscular, African-American men. They managed to hit both of them, one of them twice the other once. Hospitalizing one.
Most recently Torrence police slammed a cruiser into the back of a truck that was not the same make/model/color as Dorner's and unleashed a hail of bullets into the truck. The truck's only occupant, the driver, was a caucasian man who is also decidedly not a large, beefy, muscular, African-American. Oh, and the guy in the truck was going surfing. So presumably there was a surf-board visible to police. That's not one of the weapons Dorner is alleged to be carrying. No bullet count was reported in this incident. But I'd be willing several clips were emptied.
But hey, they improved over the LAPD - at least it was a male they shot at. Of course they didn't hit him with any bullets.
So it begs the question. Who is training these people to identify a suspect before committing to the use of lethal force since, in both cases, they were so far off the mark they should be disciplined for reckless use of their power and weapons? Speaking of being on the mark. Who the heck is training them to shoot? Two out of forty-seven bullets fired hit the intended, but wrong, targets in the first case. A whopping 6% hit rate. Now I don't expect all of the bullets to make contact but I'd hope these trained professionals could do better than 6%. Fortunately for the women in the truck they didn't.
In the second case, no bullets hit the intended target. The driver of that truck lucked out - and the Torrence police lucked out by not killing an innocent citizen due to their 0% hit rate.
I think many of us believe the LAPD officers (I'm not saying this is a policy supported by the LAPD) want to see Dorner brought back to LA in a body bag not in hand-cuffs. I believe they don't want him to have a trial that will give him a public forum or the possibility of interviews by the major networks. This is causing them to endanger the people they're sworn to protect.
I know this last sentence it going to get me flamed but here it is anyway. It's starting to look like, to me, that the National Guard should be sent in to replace or supervise the local police in the hunt. They don't have the same sort of skin in the game as the LAPD and, apparently, the suburban police departments like Torrence do.

Yes, they would extend the same effort, as would any police force.
