Can you imagine the political chaos at the Vatican about now?

I often think back to The Godfather, Part 3 I think. Those guys are vicious and I doubt the story line was completely made up. I think the Pope has been forced to resign, the backlash of the pedophilia is enormous and he is not handling it well. Perhaps there is some dementia but this old man is tired and is not making intelligent decisions. I'm also suspecting the Vatican would like attention turned to getting a new Pope, a distraction from the pedophilia news. I also suspect the next Pope will be Italian (not Berlusconi...LOL)...

vicious and nasty process. I doubt it will take long in naming a new Pope. Most likely it has already been decided. Again, I'm just speculating but I've been Catholic for too long..LOL..

The Canadians are hoping the next one will be from their neck o'the woods...!

Edit to add Canadian details --

The 85-year-old German-born Pope will officially step down on Feb. 28, and a replacement will chosen by a conclave by the end of March. Among his possible successors are Cardinal Angelo Scola, Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, and Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet.
Ouellet, previously the archbishop of Quebec and currently the head of the Vatican’s office for bishops, is currently considered the best bet to replace Benedict.
Online betting site Paddy Power has Ouellet at 5/2 odds to become the next Pope. Cardinal Francis Arinze, of Nigeria, is the potential successor considered next more likely to get the promotion, at 3/1 odds.
Yeah, you read that right. You can gamble on who will become the next Pope.

The Vatican has a lot of problems. One of them is that most American Catholics, especially women, support such outrageous positions as universal health care under the Obama plan, gay rights, and - OMG! - allowing females to become priests.

They can't really move him down the hall to the guest room, or shove him in the summer house, unless he has gotten a terminal diagnosis and knows he's on a short leash.

Most American Catholics are the "cafeteria" variety. That's obvious based on family size. Sixty years ago, a "small" Catholic family was five or six kids. Nowadays, a large family is three or four. It ain't rocket science, and I doubt that families are "more disciplined" or have a better grasp of the rhythm method than they did back in the dark ages.

And, yes, American Catholics have been ignoring the Vatican on contraception for a long time and the majority of Catholic women support reproductive healthcare services.

I doubt a scandal that happened long before he was in office has anything to do with it. It was always assumed he was going to be a short term pope due to his age.
