Can someone here tell me exactly what policies the Right offers that are actually more beneficial to the country as a whole? I could be wrong, but so far, all I have seen from their side of the spectrum are stances in favor of the elite at the expense of everyone else. They have opposed the auto bailout, the troop withdrawal, women's right to choose, same-sex marriage, secularism, progressive taxes, public sector job growth, unions, entitlements, and their side believes that global warming is nonexistent. Furthermore, while job growth was at about 24M under Republican presidents the past few decades, job growth under Democratic presidents has been about 42M, plus the deficit is shrinking under our current administration.
Much of the media makes it out as if both sides of the spectrum are equally valid, but I have yet to see the other side be correct on ANY major issue thus far. I understand that there is a need for a functional 2-party system, but what do Republicans (and the Right-wing in general) have to offer the country besides impediments to progressivism?

(53,661 posts)It was big drama, even called up Apple. For some reason they've reduced the price of a one month support plan to about a third, which was nice.
Did you hear the announcement last night at the SOTU by Obama that Apple is moving production back to the USA?
Last year Obama was reported to have talked to Steve Jobs before he died, asking him what Obama could to do get them to move manufacturing back here. But the response back then was that they couldn't.
Because of long-term contracts, was my guess. I'd heard rumors late last year it was happening, but now it's official. So Obama didn't quit working behind the scenes and he probably won't get any more credit for this than any of the other jobs he's brought back.
Obama's work on building education and bringing good paying manufacturing back is paying off. And the new CEO of Apple, Tim Cook was invited to the WH fiscal cliff talks and also to the SOTU:

(3,678 posts)It's frustrating how many people have been willing to write off/discard American manufacturing. I've read and heard people saying things like "those jobs aren't coming back." A significant counter-example is useful and most welcome.

(5,364 posts)I used to be a republican when I was younger with less life experience, and I can sum it up in a reasonably condensed manner.
Basically they push the notion of: What's good for capital ( businesses or monied people ) is good for you. Supply side bullshit. Now if large swaths of people have come to find empirical evidence to the contrary ( or never bought the theory from the outset ) then they push the idea of solidarity of culture: "God & Guns" and other social issues, all coagulated around some notion of "rugged individualism".
That's pretty much it.

(2,888 posts)people get drawn in to that thinking if only we would stop giving stuff to some there would be so much for them instead.
That is why they always vote against what is best for them because they refuse to believe that what is best for all is really going to help them.
They rather it be dog eat dog.

(82,383 posts)And there are conservatives of other races, so maybe that comment was too broad. It's the certainty of everyone being "in their place" and adhering to customs, religion, and the predictability that can seem to create.
