Topless protesters detained at Davos forum

DAVOS, Switzerland (AP) -- Three topless Ukrainian protesters were detained Saturday while trying to break into an invitation-only gathering of international CEOs and political leaders to call attention to the needs of the world's poor. Separately, demonstrators from the Occupy movement marched to the edge of the gathering and engaged in a brief standoff with police.

After a complicated journey to reach the heavily guarded Swiss resort town of Davos, the Ukrainians arrived at the entrance to the complex where the World Economic Forum takes place every year.

With temperatures around freezing in the snow-filled town, they took off their tops and tried to climb a fence before being detained. "Crisis! Made in Davos," read one message painted across a protester's torso, while others held banners that said "Poor, because of you" and "Gangsters party in Davos."

When a Ukranian woman wants to take off her top to get my attention, well, she gets my attention...

6. I certainly can't fault their enthusiasm, but I don't think their message is taken very seriously

when they make an effort towards appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Anyone who is going to get all googly-eyed over busty blondes isn't going to google DAVOS after seeing their pictures, they're going to go looking for porn.

I'm not suggesting that they all dress in sack cloth and ashes, but I think a more focused and measured approach would reap greater attention, at least on the nightly news shows that don't allow "booby" shots.

10. If they wouldn't censer the "booby" shots, they would not be such a big deal.

If those were topless men, or covered women, nobody would know about this.

Someone now knows.

11. The question is "What do they know?"

Also, if it weren't such a big deal, no one would even look....which would defeat the purpose, I suppose.

Some people enjoy the forbidden, the censored--but if it's censored, no one sees it.

People are going to do what they are going to do, in any event. You can't tell a protester to not protest, and you can't tell a voyeur to not leer.

and i understand their tactics, but they have become somewhat of a juvenile joke. Sadly it IS hard to gauge or discuss, what their Many issues are, because there is no way North American media would give them the time of day. I guess at the end of the day, god bless 'em and I hope they keep garnering attention in the old eastern bloc. Can't blame them for trying, and if works in less inhibited societies, all the power to them. Got to keep in mind, that they may be called gorgeous ditzes, but here we call occupiers 'dangerous stinking unemployed hippies'.

Wow, these are beautiful women. Why can't we get topless protesters like this in America?
