Finally, I am back on line after having lost power on Friday afternoon. What a nice surprise to see a Valentines heart when I returned!
The transformer in our building blew on Friday and we have been without electricity, heat, water, gas stove wouldn't light, had to toss all the food out that I bought on Thursday evening. I spent most of the weekend stranded but managed to trudge through the snow to get a few staples once a few stores opened back up on Sunday.
Many people evacuated to hotels, but I couldn't really afford it (I live in Boston) and my nearest friend was away for the weekend. Also, I didn't want to put anybody out knowing that the power would probably not be back on until today (Tues.) I finally slept on a friends sofa last night and got to take a hot shower. I was washing my hair and cleaning up in the sink w/ bottled water.
I guess you don't really appreciate electricity until you lose it for a few days. Hope everyone else got through the storm ok!

Glad you're up and running!

(26,286 posts)I had one that only lasted 14 hours, but I spent that ENTIRE 14 hours lugging buckets of water from my sump pump crock, up the basement stairs, to dump out on the driveway. It would take from 30 to 45 minutes for it to fill, and it took at least 6 buckets to empty it enough to stay out of danger.
The next day I had a battery back up installed on the sump pump. My next brilliant move will be to buy a generator.
