(1,315 posts)They purposely torched him. Well done LAPD.. had him cornered, and couldn't wait, just had to get it on.
Extra judicial murder.

(7,512 posts)Not to show the killing live over the air.

(40,416 posts)I don't get how people think that LAPD has jurisdiction everywhere in SoCal. Big Bear is many miles from LA. Not even the same county.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)without authorization, and not in comms with the central units.. So yeah LAPD, probably platoon D
Renew Deal
(81,869 posts)"Extra judicial murder?" He killed two more people today and is in another violent confrontation with police. If this is "extra judicial murder" then I can't imagine what you think of him killing the daughter of his case rep a few days ago.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)and what he did was wrong, but for the LEO to purposely burn him out..yeah murder.
Renew Deal
(81,869 posts)And asked nicely of course.
SQUEE
(1,315 posts)I have no problem with killing the bad guy, and have been in more than one fatal funnel, so what do i know...
But to purposely ignite a building, when the scene is secured, that is not how LEO is supposed to work.
Of course, since they feel it's ok to light up 2 other completely different vehicles, it is the new way in California.
Renew Deal
(81,869 posts)Though from what I hear it's not clear who started the fire.

Or at least they aren't supposed to be able to.

(68,868 posts)he'd add more victims to his scoresheet.
He had the option of surrendering. He chose death instead.
He made his bed, and chose to die in it.
This was the ending he wanted, and they gave it to him.
He is no longer a safety risk.

geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)It's a dangerous situation so I can see why they wouldn't want to prolong it.

They had plenty of time to deal with him, firing pyrotechnic CS, SEVEN of them, yeah, that was an intentional immolation.

(1,315 posts)7 rounds of CS is complete overkill, I have stated I have no problem with apprehension, or even shooting him during a dynamic breach, if he was a threat. Burning out a secured location is not even remotely in any SOP.. for a reason.

I wouldn't be there to kill for revenge. Or as a clear statement on the power of the police state.

(16,201 posts)Sorry, I don't buy the right wing notion that the ATF burned the Branch Davidians alive. They set their own fires, and murdered their children by keeping them in that fire.

(16,191 posts)It's improbable that this will lead to any kind of major forest fire.
kestrel91316
(51,666 posts)raining, lol, and not for long even then.
Xithras
(16,191 posts)Under any normal definition of the term, the ground is "wet". It's certainly wet enough to prevent a fire from spreading.
And even if it's not, you can be sure that CalFire already has a crew on standby. The odds of this spreading into anything major is tiny.
stuntcat
(12,022 posts)fingers crossed then.
