(114,904 posts)I know people like to be right about stuff, but crowing about being right about this is weird to me. to put it kindly. And how do you know he didn't blow his brains out before the fire?
rightsideout
(978 posts)The police fired tear gas into the cabin. Dorner figured the end was near and killed himself since the police heard one gunshot after they fired tear gas inside. The tear gas caused the fire. He's being cremated.

(1,486 posts)he may have started the fire then shot himself
of course the first thing the media says is usually wrong so we will wait for more information
personally I hate this type of reporting and just turned it off

(60,010 posts)Back in the early 1980's a group of right wing militia in Idaho were robbing banks in the Pac. NW to support their gun fetish.
One of the ring leaders was pursued onto Whidbey Island and holed up a street away from my house.
( really dumb thing to do, there is only one road off the island)
All sorts of police were at both ends of the road where he was holed up in a cabin, including 2 fire trucks.
I thought that a bit strange at the time.
But 4 hours later, the cabin burst into flames, and the fire trucks went in, the guy was declared dead in the press.
Few years later, Waco happened.
Seemed less co-incidental and more of a pattern.

(12,482 posts)the cops kill random, innocent people? Don't join a rw militia and rob banks?

Almost a forgone conclusion, actually.

(9,527 posts)It minimizes the risk of casualties to those laying siege and gives the people inside an incentive to get out. It's how the government approached the end game of the Branch Davidians and in dealing with Bob Mathews of the Order for example.

(17,651 posts)that they won't go near the cabin until it has completely burned down/out.
Just wow. My skin feels like there's a million ants crawling over it.
Won't even bother to put the fire out, why? This will be a complete cremation with no or hardly any evidence to sift through including bones.
dixiegrrrrl
(60,010 posts)Maybe they don't want to approach in case he is holed up nearby, or under the cabin, somehow escaping the fire..
They gotta find enough bones to declare he is indeed dead tho.
And according to the cremation industry, some bones survive even the hottest cremation fires.
( I read the damnest things, don'tcha know)

(60,010 posts)which indicate several versions, one of them being tear gas cannisters
another story said police were mum about who started fire, which is interesting in itself.
But I cannot think of any reason to be holed up in a cabin and then set fire to it.
This:
It was not clear who set the fire in the Big Bear community where Dorner apparently has been hiding since sometime last week.

Not happy with "terrorist" definition being expanded to cover what we used to call "criminals" or "killers".
