COLUMBUS, Ohio - Family and friends are gathering on Thursday to say good-bye to the man who died while trying to save a child.
James Jenkins, 30, died when he tried to pull Elijah Walker from an icy pond last week.
Walker was transported to a hospital, where he died on Sunday.
Jenkins was the first man to Walker but struggled to keep his head above the water.
"He ran in and tried to go in and save them. To me, he's a hero, honest. He did the best he could, even as he was drowning, he was still holding that little boy up," said witness Tammy Rhodes.
Jenkins father, Walter J. Jenkins III, said he was moved by the outpouring of support for his son.
