The Catholic Church has a one in 10 lifetimes opportunity to clean the pedo stables

It is time for the files, all of the files, to be released. The Vatican clearly has covered up sexual abuse of boys for decades and those files likely prove it. Benedict will be dead soon. He doesn't need to go to prison. John Paul II is dead he won't be going to prison. Surely, there is some Cardinal, somewhere, who isn't tainted by this scandal. Releasing the files would let us know that. This mess needs cleaned up. Benedict needs to clean this up.

I would imagine, it would give people so much information that could be used as the basis for a law suit that the lawyers would not allow them to do it. The church is in crisis already of too few priests in this country, most of the newer ones I have met come form other places and there is a shortage of Nuns as well.

To fix this, I would switch back to allowing married priests - men/women - and more lay people/volunteers, people who don't have to give up their families or worldly goods - like in the original days before all this celibacy and others weird ideas they have picked up over the years.

The culture of the church prevents this. This culture is paranoid and secretive, convinced both that they are the one true faith, and that everyone else is out to get them and tear them down. They live in a highly defensive mode.

The top church leadership also lives in a vacuum, an echo chamber, cut off from the world.

Not to offend anyone, but the selection process for the new pope is as secretive and opaque as the election of the new Communist Party chairman in China. A similarly invisible process.

I can't see it happening. Though woud the pope who cleaned up the mess be considered a saint or an anti-pope?
