(15,859 posts)I remember one time we got an inch of snow & it was like it was the end of the world! People all over the roads, everything shut down. It amused me having lived in NH my whole life. Must be mayhem right now!

(60,010 posts)When I moved South, I was stunned to see cars spun out in an inch of snow.
It got even worse couple years back when we had snow that stuck for 2 cold days.
The slighest incline trapped fearful folks.
I had to really work at not laughing.
And what IS it about the bread and milk stampede??????

(17,111 posts)One of the hazards of living in certain places is that you get ice along with the snow. Ain't nobody driving well on ice. Now they wouldn't drive right anyway, but there are times that nothing would help.
Bread and milk runs are mandates in emergencies. It's a pretty widespread notion. I think it translates into whatever the hell you need. It's just easier to say.

(13,905 posts)I was stuck up on a mountain in Humboldt County, CA for over a week. It was a solid sheet of ice on the road out of there. I had a 4X4 with gnarly tires, but even that was useless on that road. Tire chains would have likely made a difference, but I didn't have any available.

(3,310 posts)it changed over to snow. We still gathered up the dogs in the van for their weekly go-ride and went to Danville for regular shopping. It wasn't snowing much in Danville but it was snowing like hell in Caswell when we left and when we got back. It's still coming down hard but the ground is warm enough it's not sticking; just in the trees where it belongs.
