5-Year-Old Student Suspended for Threatening to Shoot Girl With Hello Kitty Toy Gun
MOUNT CARMEL, P.A.--A 5-year-old Pennsylvania girl is facing suspension after officials say she threatened a fellow student with a pink Hello Kitty toy gun that blows bubbles.
The child's family has hired an attorney to fight the length of the suspension. School officials initially suspended the student for 10 days because the incident was classified as a 'terroristic threat.'
The child allegedly made the threat on January 10th while she was waiting on a school bus with friends, according to Mount Carmel Area School District officials.
An employee heard the threat and searched the child but did not find the toy gun on her.

(20,899 posts)is ludicrously dichotomous, especially when right-wing stochastic terrorists continuously prod their audience to act out their hate with nary an official outcry.

(13,184 posts)We see these sorts of stories all the time. Have administrators yielded all common sense and nuance to the demands of zero tolerance?
I understand administrators are under competing pressures. But still..

(6,238 posts)Back when I was in elementary school way back in the 1990's (god I feel old) I had a toy star wars gun that made noises and lit up when you fired. I wanted to bring it to school one day, because it was going to be a fun party toy and we were allowed to bring toys, but my mom told me that I couldn't because she thought it might get me in trouble. Even back then I thought that was stupid policy. Things must be a lot worse now though, because we had watergun fights several times during the spring months and the teachers would even bring guns and join in. Sadly, I doubt that happens anymore which sucks, because I think it's a good thing for elementary school teachers to kind of be friends with the students. It's not appropriate for high school or college, but it was one of the things I liked about elementary school.
