Joe Biden would be the most senior Senator had he stayed

He could chair whatever committee he wanted. He would be 3rd in line for the Presidency. It is a good thing that he became a powerful VP since he gave up a heck of a lot to be VP. On edit changed title

...other than coming straight out of the blue, am I missing something?

is more powerful that the majority of VP have been. If you don't believe me just ask WV who had the chair for several years and as a result have quite a few government departments they otherwise wouldn't.

...you should be really happy for Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski

BTW, is there any particular reason you suddenly decided to portray Biden as having less power than a Senator?

Here is the sentence I wrote which you clearly didn't read.
It is a good thing that he became a powerful VP since he gave up a heck of a lot to be VP.

It is one sentence. Not a paragraph, not a book, but one sentence and you just plain didn't read it. This is a constant habit of yours. It is very annoying. If you can't or won't read posts then you probably shouldn't be responding to them. I am sorry to be so blunt but this literally takes the cake. You couldn't or wouldn't read one, single solitary sentence. It had no big words, wasn't surrounded by other words, it was a clearly stated, short sentence and you just plain couldn't or wouldn't read it.

That's from your previous comment.

And to think, he's no longer "4th in line for the Presidency" (or "3rd" as edited), he's second (oops!) first.

Still, what brought this on?

that is why I edited, I was counting Obama when we shouldn't. So he is first now and he would be third as President Pro Temp of the Senate. Actually what brought it on was reading another thread about seniority and realizing that Biden likely would have been first. He was fifth when he resigned. Honestly, for most administrations, it would have been a step down in power but a step up in terms of being known. Here it ended up being a step up but it will end while his seniority in the Senate would have continued. He had no real way of knowing since Kennedy died young that he would have been number one in seniority but it still was a ton to give up. I think it was worth it for him given the role he played. But if he had been say Wallace to FDR not a chance that would have been worth it.

Name one change, positive or negative, that Mondale brought about as VP. Now do the same for Teddy Kennedy as Senator. I bet that you can't answer the first but can answer the second.

Was born in March of '76.

But I do know that Mondale did nominate the first female VP in '84.

And he did help negotitate the Egypt-Israeli peace accords as VP.

apparently pretty useless unless you want to be president and take advantage of being in the limelight but biden had a choice and that is what he picked.
