Sorry Jesse Jnr. - you're an idiot - you don't blow $750,000 of campaign funds on luxury shit.

(17,863 posts)I still don't see buying a high priced watch. I am on my $5 clearance digital watch for the fifth year. The band is about to give out, but it still tells time just fine.

(269,038 posts)I only wear a watch when we're going out at night and I wear my mom's watch which is over 80 years. I have never had to have brand names and fancy stuff and at my age that won't change. I will never understand humanity.

(34,582 posts)when we enjoyed things that were well crafted and assembled by hand. Now we are a plastic, disposable society that settles for junk. I cannot afford a Rolex, but I do wear an automatic mechanical watch, built by hand, from Orient Watch. It cost me $300, and will last a lifetime.

(34,582 posts)Athe next will be an M-Force- they are hack able and can also be wound manually (as well as being an automatic). My dream watch, though, is an Omega Speedmaster Pro. I am a sucker for anything tied to the Apollo program.
On edit: go to the watchuseek forum if you want to see real problems

Until I rediscovered eBay.

(17,863 posts)The only one in my family who does not have one. The kids just had to have the ability to text. It is also more convenient to look at my wrist when I walk/jog than pull out a phone (especially with two dogs on leashes).

(24,096 posts)a watch is a watch, as long as it keeps time.
status stuff is ruining us, it really is.
We are so into 'only the best' it's actually pretty pathetic that so many buy this line because only the best can only be had by the Rmoneys and the 1%ers, but I guess pretend games are in.
btw, if Jackson can get nailed for this kind of stuff why can't the people Warren was talking about the other day? Only a chose few are allowed to steal, and steal by the billions. But the rest have to abide by the rules.
Not defending jackson at all, he was really really stupid.

(5,477 posts)You're making a big mistake by not accounting for the resale value of a Rolex. Instead of wearing crap, you could be wearing a Rolex and making money over time. I bought a Rolex four years ago for $3,500 and could easily sell it for $4000 today.

(17,863 posts)Or it could get damaged or stolen as well. I am not going to wear something around my wrist on a daily basis that is worth more than my car. I am not questioning your decision, and it appears that your investment is working out for you. I also do not wear any jewelry (not even a wedding band because it is just too much trouble to take it off when I go into the shop). My dad did not wear a wedding band either for the same reason.
Another consideration to be being stolen. I also would not like the attention of displaying something of such value with such easy resale potential in case someone decides to hurt me to take it away from me.
