Melissa Harris-Perry was talking about that just this morning.

Minorities are the main benefactors of donations that the church takes in.

for the thousands, possibly millions of men, women and children have suffered and/or died after Ratzinger traveled all the way to Africa to tell his followers that condoms cause AIDS.

Imagine how many children were born with AIDS and then lost their parents to the disease. How much "charity" will wash away those genocidal murders?

How much of the poverty around the world has been caused by the churches war against contraceptives? The Catholic church doesn't have enough money to pay for the world wide misery it causes.

World Briefing | Europe: Vatican: Denial On Papal Salary
By Marina Harss (NYT)
Published: July 10, 2001

The Vatican spokesman, Joaquín Navarro-Valls, ended speculation about the Pope's salary, saying, ''The Pope does not and has never received a salary.'' An ambiguous statement by Cardinal Sergio Sebastiani had suggested that the Pope did receive a salary. Marina Harss (NYT)

I don't think he can sell Church property.

Not saying that that's what you were implying, but just saying, in case some people were thinking along those lines.

The Pope has pretty much absolute authority within the Vatican. If he wants something sold, he could likely make it happen.

I really do not think that the teaching of Jesus in this particular instance referred to selling the property of an organization that one happened to be the head of. I think it really referred only to one's personal possessions.

They live "communally" and take vows of poverty. They aren't married and don't have families to support.

"Sell all that you have and give it to the poor" is one of the reasons that they do what they do.

I know, I know, the vatican is full of gold and treasures, but the average Catholic church is a fairly average church. The priests and nuns are over worked compared to Protestant clergy.

This happened in 2006 when the Pope at the time asked Bush for immunity.

Wonder if that's why the church endorsed everything BushCo did?
