Only one member of either house of Congress voted against invading Afghanistan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Lee

Barbara Jean Lee

Barbara Jean Lee (born July 16, 1946) is the U.S. Representative for California's 13th congressional district, serving East Bay voters from 1998 to 2013 during a time when the region was designated California's 9th congressional district. She is a member of the Democratic Party. She was the first woman to represent the 9th district and is also the first woman to represent the 13th district. Lee was the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and was the Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Lee is notable as the only member of either house of Congress to vote against the authorization of use of force following the September 11, 2001 attacks This made her a hero among many in the anti-war movement. Lee has been a vocal critic of the war in Iraq and supports legislation creating a Department of Peace.

Turned out she was right. Here we are over 10 years later trying to extract ourselves from there. What a mess.

Brave vote Barbara Jean Lee.

Unless you are a truther, to invade a country harboring the organization was right. The wrong was the attempt at nation building. We should have been in and out in less than a year.

Maybe she knows something from hanging around DC for a while. Can't we give her credit for correctly estimating how stupid/weak minded successive Presidents and their advisers would be?

If anything we didn't do enough in Afghanistan when Bush was President.

If you remember we took our eye off Afghanistan for Iraq. That allowed the Talibin and Al Qaeda a resurgence and Bid Laden to slip away.

...I remember defending her on a crime chat I belonged to at the time. Not surprisingly, many of the members were conservative, and boy were they up in arms about her vote.

It was a courageous and principled vote, and she did it at great personal risk.

I salute you again, Barbara Lee! You represented your district well!
