Limbaugh Is Losing! With Each Hateful Word, More Sponsors Leave. (300 Left Last Month) Total: 2,500+

by Leslie Salzillo
(Updated)

“We wanted to know who her owner was, and we wanted to know how much he got for her.... She might have outlived her usefulness on the plantation,” Limbaugh declared. “I mean, {you} never know, child-rearing years are over so maybe her value had plummeted.” ~Limbaugh, February 14, 2013 in reference to Black US Congresswoman, Shelia Jackson Lee

He thinks he's getting away with comments like these. He's not. Last month I published a diary about his sponsors leaving, http://www.dailykos.com/... and it received over 18k facebook likes/shares. People are hungry - starving to see him go, and thousands of consumers are contacting his sponsors via StopRush.net and signing petitions like the one below. Organizations like Daily Kos, UniteWomen.org, Planned Parenthood, Media Matters and other groups, are exposing Limbaugh for who and what he is: a racist, sexist, gay-hating, lying bigot. This is not me, 'name-calling'. This is truth in media, and backed up by Limbaugh's very own words in audio/video.

The good news? In one month, over 300 more sponsors have pulled ads, now totaling over 2,500. (This does not count the 800 or so who have 'left quietly') Limbaugh now averages a loss of 10 sponsors per day. To make up for these sponsorship losses, it is known he has been subsidized by outside sources including FreedomWorks (backed by the Tea Party). And I'm betting he is having to subsidize himself, to stay on the air.

"I thought he had already lost most of his sponsors" I agree...I don't doubt he is losing sponsors, I know, I have read the press releases some of them have put out. However, I am beginning to wonder if the "sponsor flight" is being a little overblown by some who, like most of us on DU, would love to see him off the air.

I know I could be wrong because I know nothing of how the ad world operates but if he has truly lost 3300 sponsors in just the last two years then how many sponsors does his show have?!?! Seriously, I think of sponsors as companies & certain groups who pay to run ads during his broadcast. If so, his show is only on 3hrs a day, although most stations run his nauseating voice at all hours via repeats, but how is there enough time for literally thousands of sponsors to get their ad broadcast??

Plus, I bet many of the same sponsors who publish press releases saying they are ending their relationship with the show slowly & quietly go back to his show after things die down a little.

I want Rush off the air a much as anyone but I also am skeptical of claims Rush's show is in any kind of trouble. How many sponsors could he have had in good times & better yet just how many sponsors have to leave before his show is really under threat??

I have not seen anything that points Rush losing his show anytime soon.

If you were to count local sponsors who no longer want to be affiliated with Limbaugh I could see how that number could be in the thousands. Most never paid a lot of attention until the show got so toxic.

The way the Limbaugh show works, the station gets the show basically free and they split the advertising. I think Rushie gets 2/3rds and local gets 1/3rd to sell. Works great when that time is in demand. But when it is toxic, anything times 0 is 0.

Since almost all of the stations he is on are owned by the big conglomerates (Clear Channel or Cumulus) they can just keep running him as long as they want. But eventually with no revenue and his enormous contract something has to give. CC has already been bought by Bain and Cumulus is on the verge of going under. About another year may do them in.

We have to consider that Limbaugh is more than just a radio show, it's the right arm of the GOP propaganda machine and as such might manage to stay on the air without any *official* sponsors. Having said that, if the GOP is trying to distance itself from its own hateful message, Limbaugh may become obsolete. Not counting on that, though.

As someone here wrote in regards to DU, but it applies to all media:

But there are, on the internet, also some individuals, and groups, who clearly promote agendas that coincide with the same agendas as the wealthiest and most powerful interests on the planet.

DU, Kos, etc. may seem insignificant to some, but as we all know,

(1) Money strongly influences information
(2) Information becomes public opinion
(3) Public opinion elects power
(4) Power greatly influences profit margins and the distribution of power
(5) The outcome of any election can depend on a single vote

I'm just sayin'...that there are people out there with unlimited wealth, who have no qualms about sparing no expense in using their money to spread information that will form public opinion, in order to elect candidates favorable to their private profit and power interests.

There are no restrictions, or financial considerations, preventing them from doing so. If I were of their corrupt ilk, corrupt ilk meaning individuals such as the Koch Brothers, I would definitely spend a few pennies to sway public opinion in my favor, everywhere, in order to promote my self interests.

(Come to think of it, I would probably even help finance a think tank to promote my self-serving agenda. Makes good logical sense.)

I would certainly finance individuals and groups whose function it would be to swing public opinion, and the Democratic Party, to the right in any way that I possibly could. Being filthy rich beyond comprehension, I would most assuredly do this. Actually, I would probably not even have to think about it, as it would be the task of some of my highly talented, extremely well paid employees, to insure that this was done.

I would say this is Rush's real job, his routine makes billions for them.

Sun Feb 17, 2013, 02:18 PM
Feb 2013

The radio stations he worked on, from the beginning were funded differently than the typical working ones. He had family money at the beginning. Until the radio stations were consolidated along with television stations under some big players who monopolized the media, the individual carriers lost money while he made many, many millions.

The stations would have dropped him if they were not getting some sort of slush money to pay his salary. And as Dick Armey revealed, both Rush and Beck have been getting paid directly by the FreedomWorks, etc., cabal of public opinion producers. I remember him railing daily and on the weekend when Hillary was trying for universal health, with all the same canards pushed by Palin and Beck.

Rush was where I first heard the term 'Death Panels.' It got Newt his majority, and look at the many millions of dollars that put in neo-con pockets, so much that they re-invest in him every year.

Frigging fascists, the lot of them.

It's his carriage on stations I am concerned about. Considering the owners of his show (Clear Channel) and the fact they have enough stations to put it on... it will only be a good thing IMO if non-CC stations decided it would be a good idea to discontinue carrying his opinions on their airwaves. Then the bean counters might figure out it's more profitable to program that station with canned music than anything featuring Mr. Limbaugh. At least locally here when CC blew up WGBT (as a Spanish language station) to become WPTI (Rush Radio) they did lose ratings, and didn't fully recover.

Everytime a ritewing nut spouts a "fact" or "their opinion", I get to say,
"Where's you get that, from Rush?"
Oh, and Rush wants Obama to fail. In other words, ritewing nut,
he wants America to fail and your Republicans gave him a standing ovation,
so they want America to fail, too, so by common sense, anything they propose
or stand for is bad for America and Americans but good for old rich white people.
(then I take a breath)

43. Why
Sun Feb 17, 2013, 02:57 PM

Did anybody ever wonder why people like him, Hannity, and Beck get paid so much money to divide the country? These are his masters who pay the likes of this human shit to divide and spread hatred just so they can control the conversation. It is good to see that the American people are finally waking up and who knows maybe not to late for our once great country.

He's getting desperate - and he knows that he's becoming more and more irrelevant with each vile rant. The sooner he's gone the better we'll be.

Where can I find a list of his sponsors to do that? I couldn't handle listening to one of his shows to know, sorry.... But that is some activism, I can do.

He won't ever go the written word as he can't write so when we get him off the air he's gone, kaput, out of here.
Just 'tween you and I I say that in the end he will be penniless.

The effect of Rush's show is massive election fraud. His advertisers are accessories, and so are the sports teams that allow their games to be broadcast on those stations!

The first time I heard this jackass he was demonizing liberal doctors and started calling tourette syndrome a liberal contrivance, or some nonsence. Then people started calling in to the show with the disease, he just had the biggest laugh. 'This guy' is a hero to the right in this country?

worth 400 million, signed in 2008 (the article was dated July 3rd of 08). This would mean his contract would be up in June or July of 2016! Interesting.

He spouts their message and they will keep him on no matter what. Last year when Rush lost a ton of sponsors CC just went to other stations and fired other talented hosts to make up for what Rush was losing. We lost a very popular show in West Palm called Josh Cohen and the Home Team. It got good ratings but they had to make up for Rush's big mouth so the entire show had to go.

Chik Fil A day was a Clear Channel effort as well. They helped them out with free advertisements at the top of every news break for at least 2 days.

CC also helped push the Iraq "war" by having "support the troops" picnics all over the country that trashed anyone that disagreed with the invasion. Every picnic had a jet flyover as well.
