A case for government regulation, the scientific investigation and the collection of data, et al.

My cousin, who is the director of the library at Pitt, posted the following YouTube on facebook with the following comment:

For those who think the old cars with their steel construction were safer than those today, this is a must see video!!

My reply:

Thanks for this Rush. I am going to use it in my Government classes. It illustrates the efficacy of government regulations, specifically as to automobile safety, and of scientific study and collection of data in developing these regulations - all of which were opposed at the time by Republicans and other conservatives. Think how many lives have been saved by this - think how many would have been lost and how many others would have been shattered by that loss.

and yet they call themselves pro life without giving a care as to how their actions affect life.

on edit: I had intended to add more, but I am in the middle of grading papers - a perpetual state - and I wanted to get this posted

People complain about the tendency of modern cars to crumple, but that's because they don't understand the physics involved. That crumpling is absorbing energy that would otherwise be transferred to your brain and internal organs, an impact that can cause death from the g-forces alone. For anyone who doubts this, just look up the statistics. We survive collisions that would have been fatal in 1960.

goodhousekeeping seal of approval on commercial claims, a rating, something simple that indicates certain traits of the basis upon which commercial claims are made.

You know what I'm talking about here, ashling, it's grading.
