ARLINGTON, Wash. -- Elsie Smith is having an estate sale this weekend even though she'd rather not.
She needs money to do something very important. And if that means selling all of her belongings to get it done, then so be it.
Smith says she had a rough life until she met the love of her life 46 years ago.
"I loved that man more than anything in this whole wide world," she said.
But Joe Smith suffered from Alzheimer's for the last two years. And last Tuesday, he passed away.
Elsie spent Friday looking at everything she owns. She plans to sell everything she owns except for a treasured painting of Jesus and some flowers.

(146,317 posts)She's selling stuff to bury the dead person. That's the core of the story, but you have to go to the link to find out.
You can paraphrase stuff if you're worried about the copyright issue.

It breaks my heart too.

(16,254 posts)Our local funeral homes will take cases like this and do them gratis. Granted, she has "stuff" she can dispose of, but $9 doesn't ring some funeral home's bell and give them the urge to donate their time and facility? I would imagine they have a cheap casket lying around somewhere. On the cold side, it would be good PR.
Sounds like she needs the donations to live. I'm in.
