Tim Tebow apparently consulted a higher power - Twitter - and decided not to speak at the controversial First Baptist Church of Dallas in April.
Tebow, still on the Jets roster until further notice, tweeted Thursday that he would cancel the appearance due to new information that has been brought to my attention.
From @TimTebow: While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ's unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic ... First Baptist Church of Dallas in April, due to new information that has been brought to my attention, I have decided to cancel my ... upcoming appearance. I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those ... needing a brighter day. Thank you for all of your love and support. God Bless!

Never thought I'd say, "Good decision, Tim..." ever.

"I only he exercised that kind of judgment when reading defenses and still not have that look on his face as if they were written in Sumerian Linear B."

(23,973 posts)Ventris thought it to be a refinement of earlier Sumerian cueiform, when it was actually archaic Mycenaean Greek derived from pictographs.
He finally figured it out.
One thing Tebow never will.

If he believes in an Omnipotent Benevolent Invisible Friend In The Sky then why doesn't this magical deity just bring Faith, Hope and Love directly to all instead of going through Lil' Timmy? I guess it's too busy smiting children with cancer and bringing famine to Africa and inflicting Real Housewives shows on us.

(43,189 posts)Yes, he is relentlessly evangelical in his religious beliefs, but never has been overtly devisive about it the way some evangelicals can get.
And as a quarterback, well he did have one more playoff victory for the Broncos than the man who replaced him. For the life of me I didn't know why the Jets didn't at least try starting him for one game and seeing how that would work. Couldn't really get worse than Mark Sanchez, IMHO.
I'll go on record on saying I've got no real bone to pick with Tim Tebow. Good on him for doing the right thing here.

(21,977 posts)Tebow's not my favorite QB, but a lot of people (esp. here on DU) despise him just because of his religion. I don't. I don't always agree with him, but he worked his butt off in the college game, and if he lands with the right team, he'll be a good QB in the NFL. I say cut him some slack. And yes, he did the right thing in this case by cancelling his appearance at FBC Dallas.

Don't think he would have done worse than Blaine Gabbert, at least.

(8,556 posts)He's not the greatest player to grace the field, but I think he does endure way more hatin' than he deserves. He seems like a decent person to me.
It's telling that few people here are praising this correct decision and instead spinning it so it doesn't challenge their preconceptions.

(274 posts)and for the life of me, I *still* don't understand why he won it.
He had excellent supporting cast that *made* him look good.
When he started in 2011 for Fox, Fox had to *adjust* his offense to meet Tebow's demand.
That's why we got Manning.
Now we need to fix the defense.

(43,189 posts)And in spite of Tebow. At least according to the man's detractors.
In the interests of full disclosure, however, I'm a Ravens fan and the Broncos and Manning put up a tough show in the AFC Divisional Game. So I can't bash them too much. They just happened to fall victim to the NFL's newest elite quarterback, that's all.
Hard Assets
(274 posts)The Ravens without Lewis is going to be a very weak team., defenseively. Reed is about a year or so from retiring as well.

(43,189 posts)First quarterback to win a playoff game in his first five seasons, winningnest quarterback in the NFL over the past five years, and in the 2012 postseason tied Joe Montana for the most touchdowns in a postseason without an interception, and tied Montana and Kurt Warner for the most touchdowns in a postseason, ending with a 117.2 passing rating.
I love Ray Lewis and I'll miss his energy, but other than the Wild Card game against Indy, he was pretty much a non-factor in the postseason and had long declined in his play. Ditto for Reed. The Ravens might never have another 2000 level offense, but they still have some solid D players (Ngata) and an extremely potent offense.

(19,429 posts)Hard to say whether some other team will pick him up, but this is probably not a good time for him to have a high profile off the field.
