Water in LA hotel tank with dead body won't cause illness, police say

(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES- Authorities say a test of a Los Angeles hotel water tank where a Canadian tourist's body was found this week didn't find any live bacteria that would cause illness.

The test was conducted Tuesday after 21-year-old Elisa Lam was found wedged into one of four water cisterns atop the downtown Cecil Hotel.

The county Department of Public Health has, however, issued a do-not-drink order, and only water for toilets is flowing for hotel guests.

County health official Angelo Bellomo says chlorine in the water likely killed any bacteria in the tank where Lam's body was found. ....................(more)

No doubt those that used this water were sickened psychologically. Yuck factor x infinity.

Before having a well dug here at my house, we were using water piped in from a spring house about 150 feet uphill.

It would need "mucking out" about twice a year. The water always tasted great, even though the occasional frog (dead or alive) was found in it. We never got sick.

Of course, before actually coming out of the faucet it went through a filter in the cellar, but still...

Anyway, even though the water with the dead body in it might not make someone ill from pathogens, it's the thought that makes it real disgusting.

past the Cecil yesterday. Hope we get some news on potential suspects soon. Such a tragic, sad, story.

I'm guessing an employee killed her.

Someone had disabled the elevator (key) and knew about the tanks on the roof.
