Silicon Valley bosses say their employees will continue to work from home - despite Yahoo!'s ban

Yahoo! boss Marissa Mayer's recent ban on working remotely has ignited panic among stay-at-home workers everywhere this week, but several major Silicon Valley tech companies assured Wednesday that they won't be following suit.

Twitter, Facebook and Google all have policies where employees can work from home on an as-needed basis, as long as their managers approve the time away from the office. At Hewlett-Packard and IBM, both pioneers in remote work programs, roughly three in 10 employees work from home full-time.

'We believe there are significant tangible and intangible benefits when employees are working under the same roof,' a Twitter spokesperson told MailOnline Tuesday. 'We also recognize that every so often it's important to be able to work remotely, and we allow for that flexibility.'

At HP, where about 28 percent of employees are so-called teleworkers, the need for work-life flexibility is ingrained in the company culture.
