EU wins against China at WTO.
WTO panel rules against Chinese duties on European X-ray scanners
Brussels (dpa) - China improperly applied anti-dumping duties to X-ray security scanners produced in the European Union, a World Trade Organization (WTO) panel said Tuesday, in the latest chapter of the trade tensions between Beijing and Brussels.
China did not properly assess the effect of the EU imports on its domestic market and industry, and whether they were causing any damage, before imposing the duties, the WTO found among other things.
"Having found China acted inconsistently with certain provisions of the Anti-Dumping Agreement, we recommend China bring its measure into conformity with its obligations under the agreement," the WTO panel said.
Beijing has 60 days to appeal, according to the EU, which declared the report "a clear victory." It was the first time that the bloc had challenged a Chinese trade measure before a WTO panel.
