Maybe this will finally get our party to face the fact that it's our DUTY to defend the idea that government is a necessary and valid force for good in society-that some things ARE more important than just "saving money" or "making money"-that, in the end, we have to fight for the idea, proudly and without apology, that ALL OF US matter, not just the tiny few that sign massive campaign checks.
It'd be nice to think that, if nothing else, at least THAT would come of this-the universal acceptance, by all Democrats, that there are two sides in this society, and that the side that includes the majority, the side of those who are not privileged, not born to dominance, not lucky enough to win at the game as of now(or possibly ever) is the side this party has AN OBLIGATION TO FIGHT LIKE HELL FOR.

(22,143 posts)It's this. Austerity is what the corporate masters want and so that's what we're going to get. It's incredibly naive to think that this party, apart from a handful of good guys, is any better than the other party on fiscal issues. Bought off, lock, stock and barrel.

I can't pretend to know who will win.
I'm certain I know who'll lose.
