I think THAT is the reason the GOP is so obsessed with forcing the sequester now
That day is a reminder to them that, once, their party's willingness to force millions into permanent, unimaginable poverty in order to prevent the wealthy from making any sacrifices for the good of the country or doing anything to undo the damage they had done throughout the "Roaring Twenties" was stopped...and stopped from below, by the combined efforts of a courageous new leader and a dedicated campaign or organizing and resistance from below. They are bound and determined not to be stopped again.
...and it's a major reason why we need to make whatever stand we can in favor of the economic and social values Franklin Delano Roosevelt(with help from others to his left, it must be remembered)lived and died for. If they succeed in reshaping the country along the lines of their ideology, we will become a land very much like the "developing world", with a massive impoverished class and a tiny, insanely wealthy elite with unchallengeable dominance over all of life.
We cannot let this happen. The culture of resistance must be built. Our children depend on it, and so do our parents.

(11,464 posts)Those standing against President Obama are standing against FDR (and JImmy Carter and Abe Lincoln and LBJ).
One cannot separate.
The old "don't sweat the small stuff" is the petty issues those who proport to be democratic party members against President Obama spew, with totally not looking at the big picture.
And are giving ammunition to the GOP. No matter how much one says they are not.
100% having President Obama's back is the single best way to hit back against the GOP and all their cults.
I have President Obama's back.
President Obama is the continuation of FDR
and petty differences on issues neglect the big picture and neglect the eye on the prize.
Because that will just lead back to the Reagan thinking, which was 100% against what FDR
wanted. Like it or not.

(50,254 posts)The answer is to call on people to stand up and defend the values of the New Deal...not to shut people up and order them to "toe the line".
We don't need to silence dissent and debate...we need to mobilize around points of agreement and fight against the bad guys.
Our leaders are always better when pushed for more from below.
