- February 27th, 2013 Richard Kirsch: The National Memo
The headlines Many States Say No to Health Insurance Exchanges, to take one example make it seem like bad news. But its not. It is good news that half the states are refusing to have anything to do with the new health insurance marketplaces being set up under the Affordable Care Act.
One of the biggest differences between the good version of Obamacare passed by the House and the mediocre Senate version that became law was the question of whether the federal government or states would run the new health insurance marketplaces (called exchanges in the law). But resistance by Republican governors is leading to implementation of the law in a way that is much closer to the vision in the House bill.
...The last thing consumers needed was for governors who want the ACA to fail like Floridas Rick Scott and Texas Rick Perry to be in charge of the laws implementation. We can be sure that governors in these states would do the minimum amount under the law to sign people up or to protect consumers from high-priced, poor-quality health insurance plans.

Interesting angle. So maybe those of us in states with idiot Republican anti-Obamacare governors will benefit from their hands-off approach. "Government takeover of healthcare" -- bring it on!

(35,392 posts)The governors aren't likely to need the ACA ... however, their "constituents" (the ones they DON'T li$ten to ...) will suffer for their stance ...

(103,856 posts)but unfortunately, it will come at a time when the house has buried the pocketbook in an undisclosed location..
I predict that one day in the future (when most boomers are dead) there WILL finally be a true national health care. There just has to be, but unfortunately for us now, there are too many oldsters around.
Once the payscale has settled down to barely survival rates for most , and there are fewer on Medicare, the government will see that people cannot afford insurance on their pitiful wages, and government will have to step in..

(2,674 posts)If Rick Perry did decide to run a state program, you can bet that the contract would be given to his cronies and they would line their pockets and the people of Texas would get poor service and a bad program in return.
