This is the third major bill in recent months that required a lot of Democratic support to pass the House. As such, its a win for Nancy Pelosi, one that confirms an emerging dynamic: House Republicans seem to need the support of House Democrats to get major legislation passed and to get out of political jams of their own making.

(16,993 posts)The Tea Party is full of crazy people who really don't understand what America is all about. The GOP embraced the Tea Party until they discovered they were going to be a problem, and now they don't know what to do with them.
No one in the Republican Party has the spine to stand up to the Tea Partiers, as they're afraid they will run someone against them in the primaries.
Republicans in Congress are cowards, and they are not representing the people, they are representing their own interests, and whoever has the most campaign donation cash gets their vote.

(11,589 posts)The idea of the Hastert rule combined with the rigid ideology of the tea party caucus in the house is what is killing anything from happening in congress.
The GOP is eating it's own, and the only way for House leader Boehner to get anything done is to start listening -- REALLY listening to the Dems. The other thing is shows to me at least, is that there are a few republicans in office, once they are freed from being held to the tea bagging ideology, they vote with rationality.
The Dems are needed, and Boehner knows it.
