Why did John Boehner have to run for re-election to be Speaker of the House?

Why didn't he just continue to be Speaker after the last election?

Because everytime a new Congress is elected, new leaders and pending legislation have to be re-instated. It does not continue from one Congress to the other. If this Congress wants to pass a law, they must do it in this session. It does not automatically carry over to the next session of Congress.

But that seems to be what John Boehner is suggesting? He is saying they passed bills to prevent the sequester from happening 11 months ago. Sorry, John. That was in the last Congress. This is a new Congress. You will have to pass them again. Actually, the Constitution requires Congress to pass all bills dealing with raising revenues. You are not doing your job.

why was he re-elected as Speaker? He's dumber than a box of rocks if he doesn't know that this is a new Congress and any bills passed in the last Congress are not carried over. Did he forget to go to Civics class when he was in high school?

As for dumber than a box of rocks, that has not yet been ascertained.

Soledad O'Brien is a good example of someone who asked hard questions and got canned. It was a warning to all media to not ask republicans hard questions only Democrats. Can you imagine what would happen if the press treated Bush like they treat Obama? A bunch of them would be in Gitmo now.
