Statement from Sen. Elizabeth Warren on confirmation of Jack Lew as Secretary of the Treasury

Statement from Sen. Elizabeth Warren on confirmation of Jack Lew as Secretary of the Treasury

Senator Elizabeth Warren released the following statement following the Senate confirmation of Jack Lew as Secretary of the Treasury:

"I am very hopeful that Jack Lew will make a good Treasury Secretary and was pleased to vote for his confirmation. As a former Treasury official, however, I believe it will be critical for him to bring on board people with a variety of backgrounds as he builds his team and helps select other regulators - people with a wide range of housing, consumer advocacy, and market experience. The Administration still has work to do to fix the housing market and reduce the risk of future crises, and I do not believe that putting Wall Street executives in key assistant secretary and regulatory positions is a cure-all for our problems. Wall Street voices add value and expertise - internally and when they are listened to from the outside - but so do others."

How could a government function unless it was run by bankers on temporary loan from Wall Street?

Crazy.

Senator Warren has her eye on progress and getting things done.

The Wall Street reform law would have a significant impact if implementation is sped up.

Thank you Pro. Looks like Senator Warren is delivering a well-needed kick in the ass to anyone overseeing the banking sector.

Statement from the President on the Confirmation of Jack Lew as Secretary of Treasury

I am pleased that the Senate took bipartisan action today to confirm Jack Lew as our nation’s next Treasury Secretary. At this critical time for our economy and our country, there is no one more qualified for this position than Jack. As my Chief of Staff, Jack was by my side as we confronted our nation’s toughest challenges. His reputation as a master of fiscal issues who can work with leaders on both sides of the aisle has already helped him succeed in some of the toughest jobs in Washington. And I will continue to rely on his advice and sound judgment as we work to create good, middle-class jobs, provide more people with the skills those jobs require, and ensure every hardworking American can earn a decent living.

those made up quotes to Fox. They're good.

Railing against confirmed nominees is sort of pointless. I mean, yesterday two cabinet nominees were confirmed, Lew and Hagel.

Not a single member of the Democratic caucus voted against Hagel, and only one voted against Lew.

So it goes.

she might have with tie Administration by tilting at this particular windmill.

She's also saying "Enough is enough."

The Administration still has work to do to fix the housing market and reduce the risk of future crises, and I do not believe that putting Wall Street executives in key assistant secretary and regulatory positions is a cure-all for our problems.
