What are the chances of stopping the sequester, if any?

Last edited Fri Mar 1, 2013, 10:15 AM - Edit history (1)

I just don't get it because from what I can understand the sequester will
add to the deficit and that is the reason behind the across the board cuts.

BTW the deficit is going down under Obama too. This just doesn't make any sense except
for the republicans trying to tank the economy so they can blame Obama for the people
who get hurt.

Once again, because it might be hard to register due to the drumbeat of deficit-scare propaganda, this is a fact: the deficit is falling at the fastest rate since the end of World War II. It is down about 50 percent as a percent of GDP just since Bush’s huge $1.4 trillion fiscal 2009 deficit. And the deficit is projected to be stable for a decade.

*******

never mind ..... Congress is taking the day off today. The first cuts should be to their salaries.

3. Chances are zero that it will be stopped, but what if it is?

Then we get Austerity Lite, with cuts to SS, Medicare and/or Medicaid, among other programs. Nobody in this fight is offering an alternative to austerity programs, just Meatcleaver Austerity, the sequester, or Austerity Lite. That's the real problem in all of this.

7. The cuts can be reconciled with Norquistian ideology so the r's are willing to accept them.

As the speaker said at the time they were negotiated...he got 98% of what he wanted.

Sequestration will be triggered.

No evidence is needed to support the ideology and no evidence can be used to argue it away.

It is based on a belief system not available to suasion.

Tanking the recovery is merely a collateral cost of anti-federal insurrection with economic weapons. Making Obama look bad, if this actually does will be an added benefit by-product.

As their Saint Ronnie said, Government IS the problem. What emerges from sequestration is movement toward their bathtub sized grail for government.

. . . you hit on the right point when you say this move could actually add to the deficit they're claiming to care about reducing.

This is just an extension of the same reckless strategy republicans employed to try and defeat Obama's second term. They're relatively financially insulated against any economic downturn, so they don't care about wrecking the economy for the rest of us with the inane and vain hope that voters will blame the President.

Almost none. Over the next few weeks, pretty good.

Either way Democrats win. If the Republicans think that tanking the economy will work in their favor they are sadly mistaken.

Isn't that fucking lovely?!

How many of us, or anybody for that matter, gets to walk away from a problem when others are relying on it to be fixed??

How many will be guaranteed a paycheck and not a pink slip for that kind on non-action???!!!

Congress, do your fucking job.

The first cuts should be to their salaries.

A-Fucking-Men to that!

Austerity for us, caviar for them!
