Do You Know This Man? The Strange Case of Benjaman Kyle

He was found behind a dumpster at a Burger King in Richmond Hill, GA, in 2004. He has no memory of how that happened. He has sketchy memories of Indianapolis and Denver. He thinks he is exactly 10 years older than Michael Jackson, making him 64. He lives in a sort of limbo, unable to get a proper job or place to live because he has no SSN. Fingerprinting and DNA testing have turned up nothing. A documentary filmmaker named John Wikstrom has taken up his cause. More:

Poor guy! Especially sad that with all his media exposure no one has stepped forward to say they recognize him. It's as if he really didn't exist before they found him. Maybe he was homeless for some time before he was beaten and left for dead....

How can it be that no one in the country recognizes this man? I don't think this is a hoax, or he wouldn't subject himself to broad publicity. Once someone recognized him, that would blow his cover, maybe. Yet...no one has responded they recognize him. No school mates, no family, no friends, no coworkers, no worker down at the local convenience store or bar that he went to frequently...no one. How is that possible?

His fingerprints don't match anything. That means he doesn't have a criminal background and probably no military background. Yet he is an age where he should've been drafted for Vietnam.

This reminds me of another case from years ago, but in reverse. A husband went missing. He was missing for decades. I don't recall how, but he was later found in another state, remarried with another family. He had, he said, awakened somewhere he didn't recognize, beaten, with amnesia. Somehow, he built a new life without knowing his prior identity, he said. I THINK, but I'm not sure, that he suddenly regained his memory years later, and contacted his former wife.

Now, as for the missing husband case, I believe he didn't have amnesia at all, adn that he just skipped to begin a new life. He wasn't on national news, for people to recognize him. He just quietly went on his way and began a new life.

That's different from the Kyle case, who has gladly exposed himself to national scrutiny. Yet, no one has recognized him? What a mystery.

People change over time and he may have been out on the street years before so not in contact with anyone for long as he moved around to live.
The street will change your appearance too.

He had rec'd decent health care, he was well nourished & basically healthy. They know what the street men's health is like - nutrutional deficiencies, liver damage, etc.

He'd had elbow surgery in his past - xray revealed a pin inserted in elbow joint. Another surgical scar on his neck.

He actually weighed more when he was found, than he weighs now. He'd been eating pretty well.

So someone must've known him as a middle aged man.

His accent is nondescript - midwest maybe, they think. So he's not from another country, I guess.

A more immediate problem is that if he is right about his age, he is getting on in years. He won't be able to wash dishes and live in a shed indefinitely. The Social Security Administration needs to find a way to issue him an SSN.

And yet, those people have moved on with their lives, gotten jobs, remarried. How did they do it, w/o Social Security numbrs? There must be a way. Or did they fake a SS #?
