The reportage on this sucks! It's not fucking Bill Gates in his billionaire mansion who puts his life on the line. The hero is not Gates, it's the thousands of people and their organizations who are putting their lives on the line to eliminate a disease which I remember in my youth. They put their lives on the line because of idiotic religious so-called leaders are telling the people that the polio vaccines are part of a US plot to sterilize the populace. It's both Moslem and Christian clergy doing this. And people are dying because of it -- both the vaccine workers and the unvaccinated kids, the latter because the can contract a paralyzing, deadly disease without the vaccine.

That's what this is about. I've seen polio in my lifetime. It isn't pretty. I applaud Gates for giving to it, but this is not about him. Portraying it as such is utter rubbish.

He and his money are a godsend for public health. Since we refuse to tax the rich, we must rely on their largesse (if they have a shred of it, and HE does).

Bill Gates decided to use some of his money for something that will be, if it succeeds, one of the big events of the 21st century, and a benefit to humanity.

Sorry. Bill Gates is a monopolist corporate criminal. Although it's good that he is doing this, as well as feeding the world (his other big thing), it doesn't erase the damage and mayhem his company has inflicted on a very promising industry.

So how does putting a pittance (from his perspective) into polio assuage him of that. And how does he even deign to take any credit for what thousands of others have been fighting for years. Some of them have died for it.

I do not object to Gates helping, but damnit, I certainly object to him getting credit for it.
