By Justin Sink - 01/30/12 08:41 AM ET
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said that the recent confrontation between President Obama and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) "brought back memories" of a similar exchange he and the president shared during the BP oil spill nearly two years ago.
Brewer said that Obama was "disturbed" by the way she described a previous meeting in her recently published book, and said at one point the president walked away from her mid-sentence. An image of Brewer pointing her finger at the president quickly became front-page material as cable news commentators dissected the incident.
Obama later dismissed the incident as overblown political theatrics. "Its always good publicity for a Republican if theyre in an argument with me, Obama said during an interview with ABC News. I think this is a classic example of things getting blown out of proportion.
But Jindal suggested that the president was capable of tarmac theatrics of his own, pointing to a widely reported confrontation with Obama shortly after the dramatic BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Obama, clearly upset, pulled Jindal aside after exiting Air Force One in a moment Jindal described as "obviously staged."

(31,706 posts)These grifters know if they play "tough" to that evil, awful "coloured" person in the White House, the racists that dominate the rushpublican party will throw money at them. The louder they squeal the more money is thrown. If it's not a confrontation then they'll cry that they were being ignored...and, btw, throw more money!!
Remember, the GOTB is the party of greed...and feeding on their own is modus operandi...

(4,578 posts)As far as I know, he likes to go by Bobby. Which is fine with me. Do you use his Indian first name to make fun? Do you think people will look down at him because of the Indian heritage? I thought his policies were enough to put him down.

(4,578 posts)I think it's crass. My personal family heritage aside as i have two adopted Indian children, but I think the intention to make fun of the name is clear.

(4,578 posts)Your intentions were clear to me. Indian folks amuse you perhaps so you think subtly in humor is appropriate. Thanks for adding me to ignore. Honored.
There is enough to attack Bobby Jindal on that name play is unnecessary. Even if it's his name, it's not what he goes by. I am certain he is not offended by his name and doesn't think of it as a slur as some might when they use it out of spite or crassness

His name is Piyush Jindal...

You are correct Amerigo

(4,578 posts)He is referred to as Bobby. But for some reason we throw out his Indian name and I know why. If reporters and editorials use Bobby, but we have people using Piyush here, it means one thing.

(4,578 posts)What is the reason here??? To make fun of him? As a pejorative? For what reason? Do tell?
Is the given name funny to you as well?
Find me one news report or editorial or reference to him anywhere as that name in the msm.
So if they don't, why did the op?? Use your head. Don't defend garbage. It totally distracts from the fact as pointed out in the article "Bobby" Jindal is using the Jan Brewer incident to get press coverage for himself.

(27,572 posts)I prefer people who are proud of who they are... I live and work at a university with 72 different nationalities where no group is larger than 20%. He should legally change his name if he is unhappy. I have known many NRI's who do actually do that. One memorable guy changed his first name to Zeus. Name satire has been part of DU since the beginning.

(4,578 posts)I found this site years ago googling a name and incident to get what people were saying. Looking for discussion so to speak. Titles and names mean something. I am backing off this and am moving on. Pissed enough people off.

(129,448 posts)that the party that he is a member of (and that he gave a rebuttal SOTU for) is known for it's insinuated "Muslims = terrorists" slur by referring to President Obama as "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" (with the middle name in caps and with it fresh in the minds of the low information voter, that it is the same name of the "hated" Saddam Hussein - despite the fact that it is a very common name).
Thus you see the reponses not only here, but around the liberal blogosphere and forums when dealing with cultural naming practices and attempts at anglicizing the name to "fit in".
The GOP has fomented this sort of hatred and many feel the desire to point out the hypocracy of folks like Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley (Indian-Americans) along with nuts like Alan West and Tom Scott (both African Americans), who help promote a party that exhibits this sort of hatred, and don't call the party out on it. And that's because they know if they did, they will end up like a Michael Steele, who has been forced to flap back and forth in the wind as the GOP stomps on him when he has called them on it... And then he relents.

(53,339 posts)...that using that name is a lot like the wingnuts insisting on using 'Barack HUSSEIN Obama' or 'Barry' or 'Soetoro'.
The OP can stand without that.

(44,577 posts)as Barack "Barry" Obama can tell you. If Jindal hates it that much, he can exercise the option of changing his name legally.

STFU Bobby, this has nothing to do with you!
"Instead, he was mad that he was going to look bad, Jindal said during an interview on Fox News."
I would think Jindal would have been concerned that HE would look bad?
Just shows how much Jindal GAF about the people that elected him.
