I knew some of the higher-ups in American Atheists for a short time; they knew I was a Quaker, but we had a lot of common grievances about attempts to mingle church and state, so we got along just fine.

Ginny and I had a few interesting conversations about religion over the dinner table.

Hell, with all the fallout from the RCC's and the Pope's Kiddie-Fiddler-Gate, this is the perfect time for atheists to get their message out there.

gave a tearful statement thanking the Lord that He didn't decide to take others in the family too.

What kind of a Lord is it that would suck a guy into a sinkhole like that?

I understand this is a tragedy beyond belief for the family. But an insane belief in spirits (sometimes evil sometimes benevolent, and we never know which Jesus will show up today) doesn't make it any less tragic. It compounds the tragedy, as I see it.

How can I trust you with power if you don't pray?
Sorry but I'd trust all my favorite Atheists with power before any of the most Christian people I've seen in office.

..every single day. It's not a political issue for the US but really, how can anyone WORSHIP a god who lets all the sickest most Evil things happen?
Religion was just a natural symptom of a world-raping organism like ours. We'll ruin our own existence, and then in 2110 when we're living like Mad Max instead of Blade Runner, we'll still be kneeling to worship an imaginary God who made US, the greatest species in the whole universe.
