"Makers" and "Takers"

Those who oppose us try to split the country into two groups...

the "Makers"...the group they see themselves in, supposedly producing so much more of value than the rest of us that they are entitled to act as if they are both inherently superior to us and qualified to judge us on the level of personal morality.

and the "Takers"...the rest of us(the majority actually)who, as they see it, provide nothing at all of value to this country and should be expected to defer to the "Makers".

But I think we can redefine who is and who is not a "Maker"...and show that it is a much larger and more valuable group of people than those who see themselves in that term would prefer to think;

1)If you are a good teacher(in school or out), you are a Maker...because you are helping to shape the minds of the next generation, something that will enrich all of us on many levels that we may not even be aware of-you are MAKING the early stages of life better;

2)If you are taking care of the sick, you are a Maker...because you are easing the suffering of those who are in pain and of those who care about them...you are MAKING life better for people in pain and times of sickness.

3)If you are helping people who are down on their luck get their lives back together, you are a Maker...because you are healing the internal wounds of such people, and in learning from them, you are healing yourself...you are MAKING life less
miserable for those who have known little but misery.

4)If you are working to hold your own family together through periods of poverty, unemployment, even homelessness, you are a Maker...because you are working in defense of the family, the structure we are told is more crucial than anything else in holding this very country together...you are MAKING a shelter for those you care about.

5)If you are active in campaigns for peace, workers' rights, social justice, economic equality, and freedom and dignity for all, you are a Maker...because you are healing the wounds of the world, the place where all of us have to spend our whole lives, and you are creating hope and purpose for people you know and people you may NEVER know...you are MAKING life bearable and improvable for all.

add yours below. I'm sure I left a lot of people out.

Anyone the Randroids call a Maker is probably a Taker.

And anyone they call a Taker is probably a Maker.

Seriously: How many very rich people know how to make anything but money? Their skill lies in convincing other people to loan them money, and in hiring the right non-rich people to make whatever it is they want to make.

The CEO of GM doesn't know how to build a car.

The CEO of Walmart doesn't know how to stock a shelf.

The CEO of Swift Transportation doesn't know how to drive a truck.

They know how to get money to keep the company going. That's it.
