Super-Rich Plan To Survive Apocalypse In Underground Luxury Condos

Now we know why they don't give a shit about the destruction of the biosphere.

Somehow I missed this story when it first appeared.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/11/super-rich-doomsday-shelter_n_1417895.html

Most people have too much on their plates to worry about what will happen when the world ends.

But then there are those who have too much money not to.

Four buyers have already spent about $7 million on luxurious doomsday-safe condos built in a Cold War-era missile shaft below a Kansas prairie, according to the AFP. The cylindrical underground building not only includes condo space, but its developer is also adding an indoor farm, pool, movie theater, a stockpile of five years worth of dry food, and space for a medical center and school, the AFP reports.

Its inhabitants should be well protected. The condo building, which extends 174 feet underground, hosts concrete walls that are nine feet thick, according to The Daily Mail. The shape of a silo, Forbes adds, also makes it an even more ideal hiding place.

Just put armed guards and a fence around the thing so nobody can get out. Problem solved.

Say! When can we build more of these? After all, it's only 1%. We could make a pretty good dent in our problems with far less than all of the 1%, I would bet.

Plus, those guard jobs would be good for the economy.

Just seal that baby up and shove some MREs down the food chute once in a while.

There are a lot of those silos around Wichita. Let's get crackin'!

I didn't read all the posts. Also, if the surface of the earth becomes uninhabitable or too hot it could also bring in other geological shifts like magma bubbling to the surface, maybe? Also, are they going to be able to keep livestock? I think not. Cows and sheep require a lot of range. What would you feed them if you don't have enough space to grow hay? They would have to become vegan.

Like everything the conservatives come up with, they don't think things through.

That show on National Geographic shows things like this. This one woman spent over $200,000 on an underground bunker. Another guy has spent a million building a compound in the middle of the wilderness.

What are they going to do when all their shit builds up? If it has 9ft thick concrete walls, I don't think it has a septic tank at the bottom. In the event of the apocalypse, I don't think the city sewer connection will work (if one exists). If it was a missile silo, there would have been no original need for plumbing at the bottom. Will the lower levels just be overtaken by a creeping brown wave?
