'I am just an angry old man hurting for my son:' Letters from President George H.W. Bush #41

'I am just an angry old man hurting for my son:' Letters from President George H.W. Bush reveal his deep anguish over media attacks against Bush Jr.

20:26 EST, 5 March 2013

President George H.W. Bush has released a series of letters and e-mails spanning the last decade that reveal a deep resentment toward the media over what he believed were unfair attacks against his son.

'I am really down about the way the President has been attacked,' Bush wrote in a 2005 letter to journalist and long-time friend Hugh Sidey about the criticism against the government's response to Hurricane Katrina. 'Over and over again the networks attack him. First for being late in moving. Then for over flying Louisiana on the way back to Washington. Then on the snail like pace of relief.'

Defending his son, Bush wrote, 'My heart went out to him. Here is a guy who cares deeply. Who wants every possible resource of the Federal Government brought in to bear to help people, yet he is being roundly accused of not giving a damn... the critics do not know what is in 43's heart, how deeply he feels about the hurt, the anguish, the losses affecting so many people, most of them poor.'

He compared the media attacks on George W. Bush to when he was a Navy pilot and the Japanese shot down his plane 61 years earlier.

"He compared the media attacks on George W. Bush to when he was a Navy pilot and the Japanese shot down his plane 61 years earlier."

REALLY? Because what, he expected the Japanese to invite him to sit down for some sake in the middle of the war? Like he didn't mean to drop bombs on them if they didn't shoot him down first?

The man is addled. The mere idea that Dubya "cared deeply" about the victims of Katrina is a disgusting slap in the face to all who suffered and died because that monster was playing politics with the situation.

a Japanese island known for torturing Americans to death.. he had them jump from a plane that was still flying, a plane that had excellent survivability ditching in the sea.

43 is a as big a psychopath as his father, brothers, wife and mother

if i'd done what Dubya did to this country my father would have smothered me with a pillow in my sleep, if my mother didn't beat him to it..

As far as I'm concerned, the WWII fighter pilot story was a cover for what he did with the OSS during WWII. My educated guess is that Poppy was recruiting by the OSS while he was at Yale. The Ivy League schools were prime recruiting territory for the OSS, especially the sports teams. Moe Berg, whose name was released in 2008 as a former member of the OSS, played baseball for Princeton. Poppy Bush played baseball for Yale and was a member of the Yale premier secret society, Skull and Bones.

No doubt Poppy's father, Prescott Bush, a former Army Intelligence officer himself, pulled some strings to keep his son out of the line of fire, unlike Joe Kennedy who lost one son during WWII in Europe and nearly lost another in the Pacific.

it all again like that made me even more ill. AND to learn that prescott was lying his ass off about his "medals" was sickening. apparently not one member of that family has actually ever honourably, and truthfully, served in the military (notice I didn't say "serve the country", because we KNOW that is one thing they have never done)

you wouldn't have to be so angry.

WE are the ones with the right to be angry, having endured your family for all these years--from prescott dealing with the nazis, to neil's role in the s&l debacle, to your time in govt (along with all the cretins with whom you surrounded yourself, who are STILL around) to that worthless offspring who only got into office because of massive fraud and cheating, and now, yet another worthless son wanting the office.

please, all of you, just go AWAY.
