Since the iPhone5 is out now, A.T.& T. is selling the "old" iPhone4's for $1.00. The Espoused One and I went to get HIM a Smart Phone (a MUST for his work) and I happened to ask the sales clerk if there were any deals to be had on a new smart phone for me. That's when he told me about the iPhone4 for $1.00. I bought it and it works great! Anyway, for those looking to upgrade cheaply this might be possibility.

(973 posts)I've been thinking about getting a note2 for work..

(22,271 posts)the "old" model is sold for next-to-nothing in order to just get rid of them. I'll be adopting this method of upgrading in the future. And iirc, weren't these things going for something like $600.00 new?

(38,958 posts)I assume you stayed with AT&T for this deal.
I just picked up an unlocked 4s and it was significantly more, but now I can use it as I please as it is mine.

(22,271 posts)Just because we've been with them for so long. But because we both upgraded to smart phones and had to purchase the data plans, my A.T. & T. bill just doubled (gulp!) My husband develops software and apps and all must be useable on mobile devices, hence, the upgrade. Besides, you get tired of sending text messages in which you have to engage in the "1, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2, 1" exercises.

(39,665 posts)That's why your phone was a dollar.
Good device though, it's incredibly useful.

(22,271 posts)Unfortunately, in today's work environment, esp. the work in which The Espoused One is engaged, it's a necessity. OK, *I* didn't have to upgrade but I'm glad I did. I'm having just way too much fun with it.

(22,920 posts)I am in dire need of a smart phone for work purposes, too (and because my IT friends are creating a mobile app for Wishadoo and I'll need to have a clue!), so this sounds like the only affordable way to get one! LOL
But having to go with AT&T scares me a bit.
Pros and cons to everything, eh?
Anyway, good for you, and thanks for the info!

(23,549 posts)It is so helpful to have a smartphone as a hospice nurse. They got them for all the nurses, social workers and chaplains and CNAs. It's so great to get info quick.
The only problem is AT&T has pretty bad reception.

(41,692 posts)of course they come with a two year hitch.
OneGrassRoot
(22,920 posts)even if there is a two-year contract, but where the monthly plan is less than $60? Is that a pipe dream?
Even $60 is too much, but I keep searching periodically for deals. Is there some magical answer out there others know about and I've missed? LOL
The best deals seem to require you to pay for the phone up front...hundreds and hundreds of dollars...and that's just not happening.

(22,271 posts)Trumad says he got an iPhone4 for free! There are deals to be made right now and if you can, act ASAP. As for the deals with the data plans, I haven't found one yet.
Note to OGR: My website goes up on April 1 and Ill be donating a couple of items to Wishadoo. Just wanted to let you know it's coming.

(22,920 posts)I just went through the process to see the cheapest plan at Verizon, and that's it.
Oh, that's so sweet -- thank you so much for even thinking of me/Wishadoo!
