Cheney Now Officially On Maureen Dowd's Enemie's List

Repent, Dick Cheney
By MAUREEN DOWD

.........................

Did he change, after the shock to his body of so many heart procedures and the shock to his mind of 9/11? Or was he the same person, patiently playing the courtier, once code-named “Backseat” by the Secret Service, until he found the perfect oblivious frontman who would allow him to unleash his harebrained, dictatorial impulses?

..................

Cheney still hearts waterboarding. “Are you going to trade the lives of a number of people because you want to preserve your honor?” he asked, his voice dripping with contempt.

“I don’t lie awake at night thinking, gee, what are they going to say about me?” he sums up.

They’re going to say you were a misguided powermonger who, in a paranoid spasm, led this nation into an unthinkable calamity. Sleep on that.

and can point to his freedom as proof he isn't the only one that thinks his way. So why should he repent or apologize? Obviously, no one that can prosecute him thinks he did anything wrong.

The entire Bush administration can say anything they want anytime they want because they know no one in America has the guts to touch them.

Darth Cheney doesn't give a rat's ass what you think, hard as it may be for you to deal with.

I'm sure he sleeps like a baby...Rosemary's baby.

I read all the comments and didn't see any I could say really supported The Dick except maybe one, unless more have been added.

Cheney has a machine, not a heart, right? He could live forever if they keep him oiled.

I was happy to see some of the comments also included dear darling daughter. They all seemed to have the same feelings we have...disgust and distrust.

Knowing Cheney, he probably has a secure(?) home in one of those underground silos someone showed drawings of on DU...maybe in Kansas? (Since they took all my "millions" with the financial fiasco, I can't afford to buy one, so I didn't remember the exact location.) He would be the kind who would think his life was more valuable to save for the New Earth were the rest of us to be hit with an Armageddon.

A side note: Fifteen or so years ago, I had a customer come in from Chicago. She said her father (who was dying) wouldn't allow himself to sleep, as he was afraid he'd die and the devil would get him. She said he had been so mean to her mother and the chickens had come home to roost...they were scaring the spit out of him. He would sit at the dining room table and stare straight ahead, day after day after day.

Every time I think of Cheney's close calls with death, I've thought of that old man. Suppose he's too cowardly to die, like he was with serving in the military? That's OK, Cheney. The devil wouldn't want you, either.

And what good is your honor if you sacrifice it to the expediency or fear of the moment, Dick? That just leaves you a manipulated fool, when the day is done.

10. Great column...

...say what you will about Maureen Dowd, when she does get it right she can really nail 'em to the wall.

Reading the column made me think of the perfect phrase to describe Dick Cheney, courtesy Joseph Conrad: "Heart of Darkness". From now on I will attach that phrase to his name: Dick "Heart of Darkness" Cheney. It has a certain ring to it -- the ring of truth, I reckon.

Remember when he was the head of the search committee for W's Vice President? Remember the breathlessly surprised reports from the news media, that Cheney ended up choosing himself for the role? While all agreed that it was odd, and had never been done before, they also all agreed that he would provide the much-needed "gravitas" for W.

Well we can all see how that turned out.
