to include race, religion and sexual orientation?
Currently the text of the proposed amendment is:
Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
Should Section 1 be modified to say "on account of sex, race, religion, or sexual orientation"?
If not, why not?

(26,602 posts)responded that an amendment can't be edited or modified once it's been filed (if that's the word I want).
In which case, I think it should be modified and re-filed with sex, gender, orientation, identity, ethnicity, religion, absence-of-religion, etc added to the list...
Those are already covered in other amendments.
