Arkansas did it: Outlaws abortion after 12 weeks.

GOP-run Legislature enacts bill outlawing abortions after 12 weeks if heartbeat detected.

Arkansas has the nation's most restrictive abortion ban after the Republican-dominated state House voted Wednesday to override the governor's veto.

The measure, S.B. 134, bans most abortions after 12 weeks if a fetal heartbeat is detected, but it includes exemptions for rape, incest, the mother's life and disorders that would cause the baby to die soon after birth.

The law, titled "The Arkansas Human Heartbeat Protection Act," takes effect this summer.

The Republican-controlled Senate on Tuesday overrode Monday's veto by Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat.

It was announced before the override that this would be appealed. It's possible that this will end up at the Supreme Court

It will be put on hold by the first court and then held to be unconstitutional all the way up the chain. A waste of taxpayer money trying to defend this shit law.

But roe v wade is 40 years old now. Science has pretty much Abrogated the trimester approach taken by that court And it is probably overdue for some refinement. But I have not kept up with the Law in this area for quite a few years. And I certainly do not want this ridiculously conservative Supreme court looking at the issue again.

Every time one of these legislative bodies pass something that's against the established law and will be struck down upon defense of it in the legal system. The people who voted for it should have to pay the defense cost out of their own pockets in the interest of being fiscally conservative and such.
