Obama Made A Major Error In Allowing The Conversation To Turn To Deficit Reduction

Jobs are still the problem because good paying jobs are still being lost. They will be replaced by "food stamp", if there are any food stamps left. And the sequestration will end up gutting middle class jobs even further.

And I think the GOP is against the minimum wage because the want wages under $9 and hour for most jobs. And the support cutting hours below the thresh hold for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Under employment is at the highest it has ever been and will become an epidemic with a GOP run economy.

this is all carefully scripted bullshit.

The Shock DOctrine says Disater Capitalists have actually STUDIED how much shit they can pull on a populace with right-wing governments versus phoney progressive/liberal governments. Turns out they can pull a LOT if we have a bumbling prog./lib.

The record deficit in 2008--which included a $200+ billion stimulus package because of the economic downtown--was a matter of great horror for him. One can make allowances for lack of omniscience; the Lehmann Bros. failure was in the future, and the financial-crisis-ending TARP was not yet necessary.

In 2009 he pledged to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term, which would be from $1.3 trillion to $650 billion. By this point what he was up against was staring him in the face.

He managed to submit a budget $900 billion in the red for this fiscal year only because of the sequester and because the recession and restructuring limited medical expense increases.

What he failed to do is yell, "Squirrel!" and make the distraction stick.

Good jobs are always lost. They always have been lost. As Gore put it, there's "creative destruction." What's needed is to make sure that people are able to take the new jobs that are created, and the populace is able to provide the necessary number of entrepreneurs and proper training to produce new businesses.

Jared Bernstein (Chief Economist and Economic Adviser VP Joe Bidden): There's another person who's been talking sanely about this in terms of the jobs deficit, which I believe is the most immediate deficit we face, and that's Ben Bernanke. And so, it is a very bad outcome, one that both Republicans and Democrats have contributed to, that we're stuck in hair-on-fire deficit obsession, which I believe is a medium or long-term constraint, not an immediate one.

David Sirota (liberal commentator, author, and radio host): It's important what you said about democrats. Bill clinton is the guy who touted surpluses. Talking about surpluses and deficits as opposed to jobs and the economy is, essentially, the box our politics are now in.
