and 90% of it was dreck. It seems to me I watched about an hour to see maybe one or two really funny skits. And then it got worse. For a time there it seemed like they thought "every skit should be a TV show". I mean the Church Lady used to be scenes from a church and stuff, but then she got her own TV show "Church chat". Then too, they would do spoofs of, say "Regis and Kathy" which might have been hilarious if I had actually watched Regis and had the first clue who he was, but since I didn't they just seemed really, really stupid.

Calling Bush "the devil" is no different than when we, as Americans, refer to foreign mass murderers like Osama bin Laden as "monsters". For Bush, who has killed thousands in his pointless wars, being called a devil is something he deserves. His actions as president were infamous enough to more than warrant it.

I don't care if they made fun of Chavez. This has nothing to do with him, really. What I care about is that they implied he was crazy because he demonized Bush. That's bullshit and SNL doesn't deserve a free pass on this just because it's a comedy show. The years (mostly 2002-2003) when the media would portray Bush critics as insane and out-of-touch are still fresh in my mind and I'm sensitive over this.

Newsflash, SNL: it's not 2003 anymore and Bush isn't some well-loved president. He's one of the most despised ever and left office with a 22% approval rating. When you imply anyone who calls him an inflammatory name like "devil" or "war criminal" or whatever is crazy, YOU'RE the ones who are out of touch. Say whatever you want about Hugo Chavez. You can make fun of him because of what he said about Mars but no one faults him for anything bad he said about that moronic war criminal.

And I don't normally watch SNL so I never even heard of the skit you're talking about.

It isn't my place to critique the government of Venezuela, as long as it isn't violating international law as well as its own constitution, like the US does on a regular basis. Such critiques are strictly the business of the Venezuelan people. “Hello Caracas, I should confess I didn’t know Hugo Chavez very well… I did a bit of research and it turned out president Chavez was quite a complex man. So here it goes, everything in this song is true.

Good bye, Hugo C. you had such great style and panache, you were a man of the people and you liked to wear a sash. You called George Bush the devil when you spoke at UN, you said it smelled like sulphur and you called him Mr. Dancer.

It seems to me you lived your life like a candle in the wind, if a candle could pull out two pistols at a press conference. You said the U.S. caused earthquakes and you outlawed Coke Zero. And on your shoulder stood your parrot with a matching red beret. You had your own TV show, it was called ‘Hello President’, it wasn’t about politics, you sometimes danced stand made up raps.

You helped to make a country the kidnapping capital of the world, which also increased milk production by almost 50 percent. And it seems me like you once gave a speech where you encouraged shorter showers, and another thing you said was capitalism killed Mars. (He actually said that...) You were hero to your people and you never gave up a fight. We'll Miss you Hugo Chavez, because Live from New York, it's ‘Saturday Night’!"
