Conservative, to conserve...we want to conserve the safety net.

Trust me, I have told this to so called conservatives, and called them what they are...radicals. They like this reality check not one bit.

I even tell them that I embrace my inner conservative since I want to preserve the net, and even expand it.

Most Republicans I argue with at work are so surprised when they hear I dumped the Repugnant party in the early 80's.
I couldn't stand the degree of stupid the party is still willing to stoop to.

I mean it in a classic definition of the term conservative going back to Burke. In his books they were to preserve the status quo, the ancién regime. It is the cousin of classic liberalism. Right now liberals are trying to conserve this now older order and Republicans are radicals trying to destroy it.

I am a social democrat.

Whoever thought he would make Richard Nixon -- putting aside the crimes for a moment -- look moderate on so many issues.

This Tea Party is nothing new. Just another name. It's still the Reagan Revolution with its emphasis on cutting taxes for the rich and programs that help those in need.

"Can't get fooled again!"
