Stop A Senate ‘Blank Check’ To Israel

By Dennis Lamb
—-
Ali Gharib is a national security reporter for ThinkProgress.org covering U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, particularly Iran.

Gharib’s Feb. 28 post in “The Daily Beast,” titled “Senators press resolution to green-light Israeli attack on Iran,” states that Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., and Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., plan to introduce a joint resolution declaring U.S. support for an Israeli military strike against Iran’s nuclear program.

In essence, the resolution would pledge full U.S. support of Israel to attack Iran whenever it feels compelled to do so to defend itself — not unlike the unconditional pledge of support German Kaiser Wilhelm II gave to Austro-Hungary for whatever action it deemed necessary to deal with Serbia in 1914. Germany’s pledge to Austro-Hungary became known in history as the “blank check.” The result was World War I.

With the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, sending thousands of lobbyists to Washington, D.C., last week for AIPAC’s annual conference and to to press for passage of the legislation and the public largely unaware of it, it appears likely to be passed into law.

to bash Israel.

With all the atrocities in the world: Egypt, Congo, Syria, Iran and so many others with no free press to report and to complain, why is Israel the one that causes DUers to lose sleep?

As for "blank check" - have you looked at Egypt lately, where the "Arab Spring" is more like the Iranian Autumn from 1979?

Israel does not need nor seeks the approval of DUers who are so consumed with hatred of Israel that they ignore what is happening in the rest of the world.

If you spent any time in IP you would know that. The group is filled with "anti-Zionists" who think that Jewish Israelis are filled with hate, racist against anyone who is darker than they are and are colonialists who are occupying muslim lands.

Just one example from yesterday:

"No, I don't believe they are isolated, random events. I believe that anti-Arab racism is epidemic in Israel, and this is the sort of fruit it bears...."

daily spouting of hatred that are not based on facts. Of the reality that most of the sources are from Israel with its free press and nothing from the rest of the region.

But, hey, some are so consumed with their daily fix that they try to post at least one anti-Israel story on other forums.

does need the support of the American people when you start talking about War measures. You also suggest Israel or the United States does not care about International Law. These representatives of the U.S. Congress also suggest Iran does not have the right to self defense when attacked because Israel feels threatened by their nuclear program. What about Israel's nuclear program? No sir, some people just will not submit to such hypocrasy. Some of us are not sheep or pawns that can be played. Just who does this Government answer to?
