Governor Crispy of NJ wants to privatize the Lottery marketing and management for $120 million

Anther Repuke fuck over of a State institution (and DON'T lecture us on gambling) that does a LOT for education and poverty here.

Christie administration officials last week began to look for a private company to take over management of the state lottery, a $2.6 billion business and the fourth-largest source of revenue for the state. Private vendors have operated the state’s lottery machines since 1984.

If the switch goes according to plan, state officials say New Jersey would cash in a jackpot every year, since the vendor must boost lottery sales under the terms of the contract.

But some state workers could lose their jobs as a consequence, and Senate Democrats warn that any proposal to privatize the lottery needs to be thoroughly vetted because the proceeds are spent on scholarships, psychiatric hospitals, centers for the developmentally disabled and homes for disabled veterans.

"Given the state’s checkered past with privatization under the first Governor Christie (Whitman) and the lottery’s importance in ensuring funding for critical programs for seniors, we will need to see every detail for this proposal," said Derek Roseman, a spokesman for Senate Democrats. "The state needs to ensure that it does not lose out on $1 billion in profit."

The GOP Governor Gashole of PA also enlisted a private firm to take over our lottery - a British firm, no less. Our Democratic AG is investigating him because of the deal. Obviously, this is the hottest new trend for GOP governors.

He's so cute....I could just pinch his cheeks. But I have a feeling he wouldn't like that very much.
