Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHelp - this local poll on gun laws has been majorly freeped
"no" has like 92% of the vote now.
There have been multiple surveys on how stricter gun laws reduce deaths.

(105 posts)I haven't run across anyone who can logically explain why most of the currently proposed laws would significantly reduce homicide.
They can support them emotionally but a 15 round magazine can kill just as easily as a 30. Same goes for all the other feel good laws. Guns on college campuses etc.. etc..
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)NY, Mass, CT, NJ, etc, have lower gun crime rates?
And, the polls show that most people favor stricter gun control laws, so the poll has obviously been Freeped.

(105 posts)I was referring to the readership of that particular website.
If you ask fox.com readers one thing, you'll likely get a different answer than msnbc.com.
As to the effectiveness of current gun laws, talk to the 535 (a new record) people killed in Chicago. A city that has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation...
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)Chicago has a lower murder rate than cities like St. Louis, New Orleans, Detroit, Atlanta and others.
Edited to add - even adjusted for the high rate this year, the murder rate in Chicago is still lower than many other big cities.

(105 posts)IMO, it has more to do with the culture of a city, state or region that whatever "official" laws are on the books.
States and cities (significant population) with low gun homicide rates exist in extremely gun friendly areas, such as Texas and in areas with extremely strict gun laws, Hawaii I believe.
The converse is also true.
As usual it comes down to the people and their culture. If they choose to live violent, drug filled lifestyles then that will lead to more murders, regardless of what law enforcement has to say.

With a vote that lopsided it wouldn't surprise me to learn they had employees sitting at computers doing nothing but voting "NO" all day long. Look for a similar poll in any other part of the country and you'll probably see a consistent big difference.
